With over 100 academic programs to choose from, Iowa Western has something for you. Ranging from practical, hands-on career programs that lead to careers in just one or two years, or transfer programs that prepare you for your next education adventure.

Internships + service-learning + class projects = real-world experience before you step foot in the real world. Theses experiences can't be obtained in the classroom. What does that mean? Just ask our students who were hired directly from their internships. It happens every year.


Iowa Western students are assigned to experienced academic advisors who are knowledgeable in specific careers. Your advisor will guide you through your educational experience and beyond. Not sure what you want to be when you grow up? No problem. Iowa Western has an array of career planning resources, and advisors who are specially trained to assist you in finding your way.

Want to know the secret to a high quality education? Dedicated experienced instructors and personal attention. Iowa Western's small class sizes allow instructors to provide one-on-one assistance to our students. Providing math tutoring to one student for six hours a day over Spring Break - now that's dedication and personal attention.


It’s important that the process of transferring your credits be as smooth as possible, and Iowa Western makes that happen. We have articulation agreements with a large number of four-year schools, so we’ve already done the legwork for you. Students who transfer with an Associate’s Degree to a regent school in Iowa take all general education credits with them. You won’t have to repeat freshman and sophomore general ed classes! We can even arrange admissions partnership agreements so you can use some of the resources offered by your eventual four-year school while you’re still here,giving you the most out of your experience at both schools.

A Cyber Library with access to 400,000 resources, netbooks, smartboard, equipped classrooms, a high-tech simulation center, state-of-the art laboratories, campus-wide wi-fi, online student services, and hundreds of online courses to choose from. Commitment to technology is a priority at Iowa Western, and you'll notice it the moment you step on campus.


Want to transfer to a four-year college or university? You're not alone. More than 75% of Iowa Western students intend to transfer after earning their degree. With small class sizes, experienced faculty, quality courses, and extensive transfer planning resources you'll be prepared to transfer to the school of your choice. In fact, most transfer students are more successful than student who begin at the four-year school. Of course, you'll save a bunch of money too.

When you enroll in classes an advisor will walk you through planning your degree. Applying for Financial Aid and other stuff you need to do as a new student. Once classes start you will have access to free tutoring, student-led study groups and study skills workshops, as well as an array of online resources at your fingertips.


Transferring to a four-year school is your plan, but how do you decide where to go? There are more than 7,000 choices in the United States. At Iowa Western, you won’t lack for resources to help you make your decision.

A student may want to transfer into a very unique program, like Human Computer Interaction or Marine Science – programs we may not appear to offer. Iowa Western will customize a program through your General Studies major that allows you to take the courses needed to transfer into a unique program at a four-year school. This popular option is actually the largest major at Iowa Western, so don’t be shy about asking! We’ll be glad to customize a program for you too.
