Critical Care Paramedic
Critical Care Paramedic provides students with in-depth education on advanced-level ground and flight patient care, as well as preparing the student to sit for the national FP-C/CCP-C certification examinations. Upon successful completion, Iowa paramedics may apply for Iowa critical care paramedic endorsement. Iowa critical care paramedic endorsement scope of practice includes chest tube placement (assist), surgical cricothyrotomy, impedance threshold device, enhanced ventilator management, arterial blood sampling, hemodynamic monitoring (including arterial lines), ICP monitoring, intra-aortic balloon pump monitoring/timing, and urinary catherization. This program meets requirements for Iowa critical care paramedic endorsement as outlined in Iowa Administrative Code 641 – 131.

- Students must hold a valid paramedic certification, Basic Life Support provider or instructor, and Advanced Cardiac Life Support provider or instructor.
- Critical Care Paramedic requires 16 hours of ICU observation at a Level 1 Trauma Center.
