If I want to be a firefighter, is this the right program for me?
This program is designed for people already working as firefighters. Students who intend to obtain a firefighter position should consider enrolling in the Paramedic program, completing the EMT-Basic certification, or selecting a different degree program at Iowa Western. Students are also encouraged to apply to work as a volunteer firefighter to gain experience. If you have additional questions, please visit the Office of Admissions located in Clark Hall, call 712.325.3277 or email [email protected]
Are Iowa Western credits transferrable?
Yes. In fact, this program is specifically designed to transfer to four-year colleges and universities. Because the majority of Iowa Western students intend to transfer, we offer a variety of resources for our transfer students. To begin your transfer planning early, visit Iowa Western's Transfer Planning web site.
Do I have to follow the recommended course sequence?
No, you can take most courses in any order you like, and you can enroll part-time or full-time. However, the program chair recommends that students follow this sequence as closely as possible. The program is designed to allow students to graduate in two years while completing the credits required for most Bachelor degree programs at four-year colleges and universities.
